Zonked after school? 3 ways to give your afternoon a healthy makeover

These long winter days at school make most of us come home stressed and exhausted! Our first instinct is to grab the chips and remote and go in to total couch potato mode. Sure, it feels relaxing at the time, but have you realized that it just makes you even more tired? We’ve got some tips—your dreary snooze time can become an ambitious afternoon in no time.

Before: You’d get home and bust out your laptop. Cue endless hours on Hulu and FB.
After: Get that workout outta the way.
How many times have you sworn you’d exercise…later. The next thing you know, hours have slipped by and you’re not even close to putting One way that our bodies relieve stress is by working it off! If you’re worried about that math exam or dreading the research for your huge history project, go for a run or a walk around your neighborhood before you start. Too cold out? Try yoga! You’ll be so calm afterwards that your work will seem like nothin’.

Before: Feelin' hungry? You'd normally reach for a quick fix of chips and soda.
After: Grab an easy, yet healthy snack
If you want to stay concentrated and energetic all evening, you’ve gotta get the right stuff in ya. Ask your mom if, instead of chips and cookies, she can buy some yummy yogurts or veggie dips. These tasty treats will give you the energy and nutrition to plow through the rest of your schoolwork without getting distracted—or falling asleep on your desk.
Before: Ready to veg out? You head straight toward the TV for (another) must-see marathon.
After: Step away from the TV and towards the bookshelf
I know what you’re thinking—the last thing you want to do after school is read! This might come as a surprise, but not all novels are textbook-boring. Reading is a great way to relax while keeping your mind moving! Check out our Book Club page for some awesome reads. You’ll find that many of these fresh stories are totes relatable.

So next time you’re tempted by salty snacks and that comfy couch, think about these other ways to chill out. You’ll be super relieved when that homework is a breeze.
