In the News: McDonald's McRib sandwich has the same ingredients as your yoga mat

The McRib from McDonald's is all over your world right now, girlie. The seemingly innocent sandwich has returned for yet another chance to get in your bellies. Catch is, this time around, folks are digging for the deets behind why the sandwich isn't available year-round if it's such a slammin' success.

Unfortunately, what they found isn't too yum-worthy.  According to TIME Magazine's Meredith Melnick, the dish is an outright assault on your bod.  Not only is it 980 mg of sodium (that's more than half of what you should have daily) and 10g of not-so-savory saturated fat, but the sandwich has some pretty sketchy things hidden away within the list of the usual 70 ingredients.

The so-called delicacy contains azodicarbonamide, ammonium sulfate, and polysorbate 80.  Now, a rule of thumb is to stray away from ingredients that you haven't the foggiest idea as to what they are or ones that you can't quite pronounce.  What's that say about these buddies, then? Azodicabonamide is a flour-bleaching agent that is commonly used in foamed plastics.  That's right, the same material that is in your yoga mat and your gym shoes is now in your food. Yuck!

That's not all, that same ingredient is actually banned in several countries as a food additive, one that can be particularly harmful to your heart health.  I'd say the only thing appealing here is the limited availability.

So, babes, send your thoughts in: mega-ew or still one of your fave guilty pleasures?
