How to stay motivated when starting your workout journey

Let's be honest: It's hard to gain the courage to start working out—especially when you have all the free time in the world to procrastinate on it. There are so many ways we choose to spend our time, and with no motivation, working out tends to be at the bottom of that list. Luckily, we've compiled some tips on how to keep pushing through those tough days!

Make it fun

The hardest part when starting out is not being excited to do your next workout. Turn on your favorite playlist and blast some music! Or switch up your routine and find different ways of exercising to keep things interesting. Tired of the same dumbbell workout? Try a Zumba class!

Change your mindset

Consider working out a chore? That's the problem! Instead of thinking of that cup of ice cream you had earlier as your motivation to "burn it off," think of it as a reward for working so hard. Don't pressure yourself to get up and work out. We *all* need breaks. So if you need a rest day, take one.

Keep track of your progress

Start a workout diary! Write down what you did each day and what your motivation was. A workout diary is the best way to look back on how well you're doing—and make it cute! Decorate your diary with your fave stickers and colors so that it's something you're excited to open and write in.

Get a workout buddy

Take this as your sign to get a workout buddy ASAP. By having a partner to work out with, you can hold each other accountable and encourage one another to push through. Sometimes it can def get a bit boring and difficult doing that workout grind on your own, but by having company, it'll make the process ten times more fun!

Make working out competitive

Who doesn't love some good ol' friendly competition? For more drive to stay on track, there are *so* many apps online to make working out more competitive with others. You can also get involved in a workout challenge like the popular Chloe Ting Two Week Shred program. This not only gives you more incentive to stay consistent, but it also pushes you to reach above your potential.

Reward yourself

Setting goals is super important if you want your workouts to pay off. Better yet, reward yourself when you reach those goals! Don't get us wrong, it is *not* easy to stay motivated when working out, so you deserve to be praised for your hard work. Tell yourself that if you achieve a specific goal, you will treat yourself to something such as a new pair of shoes you've been wanting, a spa day or a book on your TBR list.
