A few shifts can transform your spot into the stuff of dreams: Keep colors calm, reduce visual clutter and fill your room with meaningful objects. The goal? Making you feel at peace as soon as you open the door. For breezy vibes, pick a pastel or earth-tone color scheme. Steer clear of bright reds and yellows (which are associated with high-key energy), notes Tiffanni Reidy, an interior designer in Baltimore. For a subtle swap, incorporate a few pillows, candles and artwork all in the same shade. For a more sweeping change, go for a painted accent wall or a new bedcover in your chosen hue. If you’re sharing a room, “find a corner of your own where you can focus your attention, even when someone else shares that space, too,” Reidy advises. Use that area to echo the chillness you’re trying to achieve: Hang up mini bunches of dried flowers, twinkly lights or a woven tapestry. “When you build your space around pieces that inspire you, your room will take on that feeling, too,” she shares.
