How to make the *cutest* caramel apples
Caramel apples are the quintessential Fall snack, but they need a *total* upgrade. These sweet treats are perfect to post on Insta with all your besties. Take your plain, boring caramel apple to a whole other level with our guide down below!
Everything you need:
π Apples: Any tart, crisp apple works. Granny Smith tends to work the best!
π Carmel candies: Wrapped caramel candies are available in most grocery stores.
π Wooden skewers: You can always use popsicle sticks or chopsticks.
π Wax-covered baking pans: Even if covered in wax paper, non-stick is preferred!
π Spatula + a large saucepan: These will be used to melt the caramel.
π Preferred extra toppings: Get creative! You can use Oreos, salt, chocolate, M&Ms or anything you want.
Directions:
(Before you begin, make sure everything is ready. Have your wax-covered pans and toppings near the apples for easy access.)
π Wash and dry your apples to ensure a smooth, clean surface. Put your wooden stick through the top of each apple, pushing it in until the stake is about halfway through. Place the apples in the fridge to cool.
π STOVETOP: Unwrap all of your caramel candies and place them in a large saucepan or double boiler. Keep the heat at medium and stir frequently. Keep a close eye on the mixture to make sure it doesn't burn! Stop when the caramel is smooth and completely melted.
π MICROWAVE: Place your microwave-safe bowl with candies in the microwave. Heat for a few 30-second rounds, stirring between each interval (this should take a few minutes). Stop when the caramel is smooth and completely melted.
π Pull out the apples from the fridge and dip them in the caramel, one at a time. Try to cover all of the apple in caramel to prevent any apple from showing. Lift the apple and let the excess caramel run off into the bowl.
π Roll the warm caramel-covered apple into the bowls of toppings.
π Place the apple on the tray, with the stake upwards. Repeat until all of the apples are covered in caramel/ toppings, and then place in the fridge for a few hours to set.
π Enjoy!
