Math Mix

Okay, so it’s trail mix but when was the last time you hit the trail? More likely, you’ll need a quick snack before math class or you’ll never make it until lunch. Throw some mix in a zip-lock bag to keep in your backpack. (But remember that chocolate chips can melt.) And share some with your math teacher.

Hit the Trail

Trail mix is whatever you make it – I don’t like raisins so I used dried cranberries. You despise peanuts but love almonds; you get the idea. If you do use raisins, forget about those dried up ones and look for plump. (Try golden raisins.) Some nuts and seeds to consider: cashews, pecans, walnuts, sliced or whole almonds, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds. Try to buy your nuts and seeds roasted – they have more flavor and are crunchier.

What You’ll Need:

*2 cups granola

*1/3 cup each:
Dried cranberries or raisins
Sweetened coconut
Chopped dried apricots
Mini chocolate chips
Unsalted roasted peanuts

What You’ll Do:

In a large mixing bowl, stir together all the ingredients. Store in a covered container in a cool place for up to a week.

Tools:

*Large mixing bowl
*Measuring cups
*Covered container
