Spring showers: how to make the most of a rainy day

It's raining, it's pouring—but your day is going to be anything but boring...

It's finally Saturday and you can't wait to spend the weekend soaking up some spring sunshine...until you open the curtains and realize it’s raining—again. But a few showers don’t have to, well, pour on your parade. To help brighten up even the dreariest of days, we’ve come up with the best boredom busters for beating bad-weather blues, from dreamy DIYs to energy-boosting activities. Pick the perfect plan based on your stormy-day sidekick (your pals, your fam, your bae or even if you’ll be singin’ in the rain solo) and, remember, there are scores of sunny skies ahead.

 With your squad...
Pick a Pinterest project. Time to stop pinning and start doing. Decorate mugs with metallic Sharpies, distress an old pair of jeans (so cute for spring!) or make a pretty present for Mother’s Day. Look for cute craft inspo at girlslife.com/iti.
Set up a Slip ‘N Slide. Who said you have to stay inside all day? Roll out the Slip ‘N Slide in the backyard, pop on a swimsuit and see who can slide the farthest.
Go on an indoor scavenger hunt.Grab your gals and hit the mall for an adventurous afternoon. Split into two teams and make a list of things you have to find or complete, like a pho- to of you in a version of Cheryl Blossom’s iconic lewk (think: red, black and fierce all over). First team finished wins!
Throw a cocoa party. (It’s the new tea party, duh.) Cute cups + fun toppings + whipped cream = a super sweet soirée. Don’t forget the marshmallows and fresh-baked sugar cook- ies for the perfect pairing.

 With your fam...
Make breakfast in bed. Treat yourself—and your fam—to serious brunch #goals with this super simple hack: Pop some canned cinnamon roll dough in a waffle maker, bake for three to four minutes, then drizzle with icing.
Go “camping.” Cozy up inside a blanket-fort-turned-tent in the living room while you listen to the rain. When it gets dark, take turns telling spooky ghost stories. Scariest one gets an extra s’more!
Cue up the karaoke. Put that wireless mic you got for Christmas to good use with a family lip-sync battle. Hear- ing (or watching) your dad belt out “Shallow” will be *so* totally worth it.
Bust out the board games. Challenge your fam to a good old-fashioned game night. Choose from classics like Monopoly or Scrabble, or scope out something you’ve never played to become a new fave (Apples to Apples anyone?).

 With your bae...
Compete in a cook-off. Find out who will be crowned queen (or king) of the kitchen by participating in a little friendly competition. Pick a recipe to try or stage a Chopped-style challenge by whipping up original dishes with rando ingre- dients. And the judges? Your parents and sibs, ofc.
Throw your own film festival. Slip into sweats, then pick a movies-and-munchies theme (we heart sipping homemade butterbeer while binge-watching Harry Potter). A movie mar- athon is the perfect excuse to snuggle up to your sweetie.
Jump around. Burn off excess energy together with a trip to the nearest indoor trampoline park. Not only will you feel like a kid again, you’ll get a workout in, too. Win-win.
Play with pups. The only thing cuter than your crush? A four-legged friend. Ask the local animal shelter if they need any volunteers to cuddle with kittens or puppies. You’ll be bonding with your boyf *and* giving back at the same time.

 On your own...
Soak up some suds. Bath bomb? Check. Cucumber-infused water? Check. Snuggly robe and slippers? Check. All that’s left is 30 minutes of uninterrupted “you” time for some serious spa vibes.
Revamp your room. Channel your inner Marie Kondo and clear out any clutter for a spruced-up space. As the organi- zational guru says, if it doesn’t “spark joy,” get rid of it. We see a color-coordinated closet in your future!
Go to YouTube school. Whether it’s finally nailing that smoky eye or learning how to speak French, take advan- tage of an open afternoon by taking notes on YouTube tutorials (find some of our faves at right here).
Sneak in a sweat sesh. Barre, boxing, cardio dance...no matter what your fave workout is, there’s a way to hack it at home. Search Instagram for inspo or lace up your sneaks for a pavement-pounding run in the rain.
