Help! I'm staying with my BF out of pity

 
My BF is totally in love with me. I’m not sure I feel the same. At first I loved him but not anymore. He tells me I’m the only thing he cares about. His home life is terrible, and his mother is crazy. (She tells him she should have aborted him.) I like him as a friend, but I don’t want to break his heart. He’d be crushed. 
 

Dear Help Me,

How awful that your BF’s mother is so verbally abusive. That kind of talk can leave a person feeling worthless – and in need of a girlfriend-as-a-life-raft. It’s admirable that you’re sensitive about his feelings, but your feelings count, too. Say, “I really care about you, but we’re too young to be so committed…” In life, hearts routinely get broken (and mended), so realize you aren’t stuck and don’t owe him your eternal love.
