Slumgirl Dreaming: Rubinas Journey to the Star
As I’m sure many of you have experienced, these days it’s not easy to find an incredibly good movie. I am one to critique what I watch pretty intently, but there was one particular movie that left me absolutely speechless. For those of you girls who have seen Slumdog Millionaire, you probably understand what I’m talking about.
The movie made me laugh, cry and gave me deep insight into the harsh realities of living in a Mumbai slum. But could you imagine what it’d be like to go from living in a slum, then being treated like a movie star, only to return back to the slums after your award-winning movie is complete?
Rubina Ali who played young Latika in Slumdog Millionaire is sharing with the world in her new book Slumgirl Dreaming: Rubina’s Journey to the Stars. At 9, she has written a book discussing her life before, during and after the movie. The book also includes photos and really helps you take a look through Rubina’s eyes, learning everything she’s had to go through while dealing with drastic lifestyle changes. This book, in stores now, is relatively short and is sure to be a pleasure for all who read it.
