The Secret Life of Prince Charming

The Secret Life of Prince Charming by Deb Caletti tells the story of Quinn who has endlessly heard tales of how men are nothing but liars and are bound to break your heart.
All the women in her life have had their hearts broken—Mom, Grandma and Aunt Annie. Quinn tries to ignore most of what they say, but she starts to see things their way after her awesome boyfriend Daniel dumps her for someone else.

Quinn soon starts up another relationship with her father, whom she hasn’t seen in 12 years. He’s weird, charming and lazy, but she’s happy to see him again and visits every other weekend with her younger sister, Sprout. Quinn enjoys visiting, despite what her mother says about him—until she learns of all the horrible and cruel things he’s done to women, stealing more than just their hearts (he stole items precious to them and made up elaborate stories on how he got them).

Quinn joins forces with Sprout and a half-sister she doesn’t really know to right her father’s wrongs. In doing so, they learn the truth (what they were looking for the whole time), which only brings her closer to her dad.

The characters in Deb Calettis’ novel are unique. There’s an interesting perspective of children of divorce and what it means to have an estranged father. Quinn is forced to address her mixed feelings for her father and realize who he truly is. It’s compelling and beautiful—no action or romance required.
