Get a taste of that Southern California summer with Honey Girl

When you feel out of place, it's hard to not want to do everything you can to fit in. In Lisa Freeman's new novel Honey Girl, Haunani "Nani" Grace Nuuhiwa knows exactly how that feels, and also what she's willing to do to make the cut. In this emotionally-compelling, relatable new novel, Nani fights to earn her place in the group, but also to understand and come to terms with who she is.

Nani, a fifteen year old Hawaiian girl raised by her father, has suddenly lost everything she knows. After her father's heart attack and her subsequent move to her struggling mother's place in Santa Monica, CA, she's not sure exactly where she belongs anymore, but after she discovers Rox and the popular, exclusive group of girls she hangs out with, she thinks being one of the "honey girls" just might be the right fit. Befriending the crew isn't as easy as it seems, but with a little deception (and decent sneaking around on Nani's part), she lands a role in the coveted crew.

Being part of the group makes getting in seem easy, though, especially when Nani's got secrets that could cause things to fall apart at any minute. Not only would Rox and her friends ditch her quick if they found out about the spying, Nani's also not sure how they'd react to the fact that she just might have feelings for Rox – okay, scratch that, she definitely does.

Will Nani be able to keep her secrets hidden from the group? Will she be able to confront her feelings for Rox while still keeping her friends? Win a copy of Lisa Freeman's Honey Girl, in stores now, to find out.
