-
Winn-Dixie from Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
This timeless story about a girl and her dog brings us one of our favorite pets: Winn-Dixie! When Opal goes into the supermarket and comes out with a big, scraggly dog, she not only has a new pet, but a new best friend. You’ll fall in love with him too, and this classic story may become one of your favorites.
-
Hedwig from Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
He’s cute, fluffy, loyal and, oh yeah, he can fly! Who wouldn’t want an awesome mail-carrying sidekick like Hedwig? Whether you’re a Potter fan or not, everyone can totally agree that this feathered fella would make a super fun—and totally helpful—house pet. -
Marley from Marley & Me by John Grogan
No one can resist some good old puppy love—and certainly not when the pup is as adorbs as Marley. That’s why he totally makes it on our list of favorite pets. John Grogan tells the heartwarming story of his real-life (totally out-of-control) dog, Marley, that’ll have you laughing, crying, and begging your parents to get you a new pup. (Bonus: you’ll love the movie, too!) -
Beauty from Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
Another classic, Black Beauty is one of our favorite animals from a book. Although he hops around from owner to owner, he overcomes all types of obstacles and stays true to himself. We could learn a thing or two from Beauty—maybe even a few hair tips to help tame our manes. -
Toto from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
Everyone loves the classic Yellow Brick Road tale, but let’s be honest, the cutest member of the gang? Toto! An adorable, attention-seeking, adventurous little Yorkie, what more could you ask for?
-
Flicka from My Friend Flicka by Mary O’Hara
The same way your BFF can cheer you up and have a blast with you, Flicka is totally the best sidekick to Ken. Sometimes pets make better besties than humans ever could –especially when it’s a horse and you can ride it everywhere! We totally wish Flicka was our friend, too.
