Stay positive with Ordinary Beauty
In Laura Wiess’ new book, Ordinary Beauty, 17-year-old Sayre Bellavia goes through a ton of different struggles as she deals with her mother’s drug addiction. Throughout her life, Sayre has known she was an unplanned mistake. From dealing with abandonment, being used and uncared for, she’s become an expert in heartbreak.
From foster care to various relatives’ homes, Sayre’s always tried to help her mother through addiction. But she struggles with one tough question: Did her mother ever love her? As her mom now lies in a hospital bed nearing death, Sayre goes on a journey to find that answer.
Mesmerizing and brave, this book goes places where few titles have gone before. While dark at times, it paints a realistic picture of Sayre’s life without much sugar coating. Sayre is an amazing lead character who somehow manages to find hope in her life, even though she has been through so much.
An inspiration to many, she keeps trying to push out of the awful cycle of self-destruction that has completely surrounded her life, making her a character we’ll all want to remember when we’re going through our own life drama.
