Must List
Everything you missed from the 2024 Oscars
The biggest night in Hollywood just went down—that's right, the Oscars! All our fave celebs gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate excellence in film. The night was full of fabulous performances (tear-jerking and hilarious), amaze acceptance speeches and glam red carpet looks. In case you missed it, here are the highlights of the night...
Billie Eilish and Finneas brought us to tears
This performance definitely makes our list as one of the most stunning and iconic moments of the night. Billie Eilish performed her hit song from Barbie, "What Was I Made For?" while her brother, Finneas, accompanied her on piano. When the camera panned to the audience, there was not a dry eye in the building.
The song was especially emotional for Barbie cast members Margot Robbie, America Ferrera and director Greta Gerwig. "What Was I Made For?" won the Oscar for Best Original Song later in the night. The award made Billie the youngest person in history to win two Oscar awards.
Oppenheimer swept the awards
The summer blockbuster Oppenheimer was the star of the night. After being nominated in 13 different categories, Oppenheimer took home seven Oscar awards, including Best Picture (the biggest award of the night), Best Director and Best Actor. This was the first Oscar win for director Christopher Nolan and lead actor Cillian Murphy.
Ryan Gosling performed "I'm Just Ken"
Even though Barbie missed out a few major nominations, Ryan Gosling ensured that it was still the talk of the night. He reprised his role as Ken to put on a memorable performance of the hit "I'm Just Ken." Gosling performed in a hot pink bedazzled suit and black sunglasses. Some of the other Ken dolls even made an appearance as background dancers in the performance (hiii, Simu Liu!). Ryan even ran around the audience, occasionally holding the microphone up to other celebs such as Margot Robbie and former co-star Emma Stone.
Emma Stone won Best Actress
Emma Stone took home the Best Actress win for her performance in Poor Things. Her acceptance speech was a little chaotic and incredibly endearing. She looked stunned as she walked to the stage, then declared that her dress ripped—and jokingly blamed it on Ryan Gosling's "I'm Just Ken" performance. During Emma's speech, she thanked her almost 3-year-old daughter (aww!) and even ~potentially~ mentioned her bestie, Taylor Swift.
"And most importantly, my daughter, who's going to be three in three days and has turned our lives technicolor. I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl," Emma said as she wrapped up her acceptance (we're here for that T-Swift reference).
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo presented awards
The stars of the upcoming Wicked movie were one pair of presenters for the night. They walked the carpet wearing gorgeous looks inspired by their roles in the highly anticipated film. Ariana looked amazing in a light pink poofy dress that totally gave Glinda vibes. Cynthia channeled Elphaba in a beautiful. dark green look. They presented the awards for both Best Original Song and Best Orignal Score.
