Rom-coms your mom loved that you'll love, too
Rom-coms have always been the superior movie genre! We're always down to watch a happy chick flick with a *big* bowl of popcorn. These '80s and '90s films are great to add to your watch list. Plus, they're all super fun ideas for a movie night with your mom. We can't think of a better way to celebrate Mother's Day (remember to tag us in all the cute pics)!
My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)
This movie stars two of the OG rom-com queens: Julia Roberts *and* Cameron Diaz! In My Best Friend's Wedding, Julia Roberts' character, Julianne realizes she's in love with her childhood best friend—right before his wedding. Naturally, she's set on trying to ruin the wedding, all while balancing the title of maid of honor (yikes). This feel-good movie is guaranteed to make you laugh and cry.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video
Pretty in Pink (1986)
We know your mom remembers Molly Ringwald, the leading lady in Pretty In Pink. In this John Hughes movie (think: Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club), Andie keeps to herself and doesn't fit in with the rich and popular kids at school. Everything changes when the cutest guy in school asks her out (our dream!). Follow along as Andie balances high school bullies and dating someone from a different social status.
Where to watch: HBO Max or Amazon Prime Video
Never Been Kissed (1999)
Starring Drew Barrymore, this movie follows Josie who gets a second chance at the high school experience. As a copy editor for a newspaper, she is in charge of going undercover to write an article all about teenagers. But, things get complicated when she has to deal with different cliques (ugh, the worst!) and starts to fall for one of her teachers. This will become one of your new faves!
Where to watch: Hulu, Disney+ or Amazon Prime Video
Can't Buy Me Love (1987)
Can't Buy Me Love features young and dreamy Patrick Dempsey. His character Ronald is an outcast at school—until he strikes a deal with the popular cheer captain. In exchange for $1,000, she will pose as his girlfriend for a month. As you can guess, things start to get difficult when feelings become involved. We know your mom will love rewatching the funny flick.
