Creating a playlist for your BFF is a thoughtful, easy and free way to show her how much you care. Who wouldn't adore a curated collection of songs, hand-picked by the person that knows you best?

Ofc, we know the first jams you're queuing are you and your bestie's fave throwbacks (think: the Hannah Montana soundtrack and 2000s chart-toppers). But you've got to add in some current bops, too. 

We've guided you through everything from building your go-to shower playlist to tracking down the full-length version of that catchy TikTok sound. It's only right that we give you five pitch-perfect recs for new songs—all released within the past two years—to add to your BFF's playlist.

1. "Liz" by Remi Wolf 

This playful, funky song makes a fab opener for your bestie's playlist. Remi Wolf's unstoppable, powerful vocals, mixed with her sometimes-silly-but-always-sweet lyrics, make her the rising star to watch this year. "Liz" is all about that one-of-a-kind, loyal friend who totally *gets* you, even when nobody else does. 

2. "Solid" by MUNA

If your best friend is a little on the edgy side (i.e. she's planning to dye her hair bright pink and wears her Doc Martens everywhere), "Solid" by MUNA would make a good addition to her playlist. This song's 80s-inspired synths, punchy drums and unapolagetic lyrics make it a ~solid~ fit for any rebel girl. 

3. "Honey" by Samia

"I got a good feeling about this weekend..." sings indie-pop artist Samia on her song "Honey", which comes from her recently-released album of the same name. And this tune, with its snappy hook and peppy guitar, captures that exact "good feeling" of getting all dressed up with your girls and hitting the town. You could belt out "Honey" in the car or shout it on the dancefloor—we recommend both. 

4. "2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)" by Lizzo

The playlist for your number one girl wouldn't be complete without some Lizzo (whose newest album earned Record of the Year at the 2023 Grammy Awards!). You may have already heard this chart-topper on the radio, but we had to include it here because of its infectious melody and unbeatable sing-along potential. Plus, it never hurts to share a self-love anthem with your bestie to remind her how wonderful she really is. This one also gets extra points for a super fun music video! 

5. "True Blue" by boygenius

Ever since the reunion of alt-rock supergroup boygenius, this one's been on major repeat. A tender ode to tough love and lifelong friendship, this song might just be the ideal closer for your BFF's playlist. You can def tell that "True Blue", with its vulnerable message and goosebump-inducing harmonies, was written by three irl best friends.
