Everything you need to know about Shadow and Bone season two

Our fave Sun Summoner is set to return to Netflix on March 16, along with our ragtag group of thieves and the fantastical ensemble of characters. There will be eight episodes to capture the magic, allies and all of the Grisha adventures in this season. Whether you're new to the Grishaverse world or an avid fan of the series, we've got all the deets.

Season One Recap

In case you missed it, season one of Shadow and Bone follows the first book in the Grishaverse series with our main character, Alina Starkov. She and her best friend Mal (now a soldier in the army) are orphans who grew up together. When she follows Mal into The Shadow Fold, a deadly sea of darkness that grows in the middle of their kingdom, they're attacked by vicious creatures called the volcra.

Alina's secret, suppressed power comes to light— literally, when she summons light to her and discovers she is a Sun Summoner. She's taken to train with the rest of the Grisha, or people with powers that range from element summoning to commanding heartbeats. The rest of season one varies between her journey with The Darkling, General of the Grisha army and a group of thieves known as the Crows as they attempt to kidnap Alina.

The Cast

The Crows are finally going to be the complete crew with the addition of Wylan, played by Jack Wolfe. The book character is the estranged merchant's son with a knack for demolitions and setting off bombs.

Nikolai Lantsov (brb, fangirling), prince of Ravka, is joining the Shadow and Bone series played by Patrick Gibson. Known for his cocky overconfidence in the books, he'll be sure to add a new element to Alina's journey.

We *also* have the iconic sibling duo of Tamar and Tolya showing up on the screen. We'll see them working on the privateer Sturmhond's ship and getting to meet Alina under some tricky circumstances.

The Script

Season two is expected to follow the events of Siege and Storm, the second book in the Shadow and Bone series. We'll likely see Alina and Mal as they're on the run from The Darkling and trying to avoid capture. Where will the Crows come in? That's a little trickier. Author of the Shadow and Bone series and Six of Crows duology, Leigh Bardugo, has stated that they've "created this alternate timeline" from the book timeline and likely will draw from all seven novels in the Grishaverse to create their stories. So while we'll definitely get to see Crows in action, it might look different than imagined.
