Ah, royalty. We all dream of it…and Kate Middleton sort of stumbled into it. With the wedding so close, we took a glimpse of some behind-the-scenes footage, which appears in the Prince William & Kate – The Royal Romance DVD (available now) and were interested to learn these fun facts about the royals.

Where did Will and Kate first meet?

At the university they both attended – the University of St. Andrews. Kate turned bright red when they were introduced, and as she puts it “scuttled away.” Hey, meeting a prince is no easy thing.

How did they start dating?

Friends first! The two were acquaintances who became close friends. In 2003, Kate attended his passing-out parade where it was pretty obvious the two were a little more than chums.

Why did he wait so long?

Although it seems like they were dating FORever (well, seven years is kind of a long time) Will wanted to wait until all his flight training was through, and for them both to be at a place in their lives where it was time to settle down.

How did he propose?

The two went on holiday in Kenya with friends. Although they had talked about marriage for quite a while, Will felt this was the perfect moment. He took her away from their friends, and was a true romantic. Sigh.

What’s with the ring?

Kate’s engagement ring, which is totally gorg, is a sapphire with diamonds. Oh, and did we mention it was the late Princess Di’s? Will felt that giving Kate his mother’s engagement ring would keep her close. Don’t worry though, Kate wants to become her own princess and is not trying to replace anybody!
