Studio home of Harry Potter to become a museum

Good news, Harry Potter fans! Come 2012, there will be a new, dedicated space for HP memorabilia: Leavesden Studios, located about 18 miles from central London.

Last week, Warner Brothers acquired the studio complex, which has served as the home base for all seven Harry Potter films during the last decade. While they intend to expand the studio and continue to film big budget movies on its lots and soundstages, they will also be preserving a number of the Harry Potter sets and offering behind-the-scenes tours.

Notable sets constructed at Leavesden include various areas of Hogwarts and the row of townhouses that comprise Privet Drive, pictured above.

The stars and ensemble cast members of the HP series are reportedly quite pleased to see their home away from home receiving recognition and preservation. Emma Watson is quoted as saying she had “the time of my life making films at Leavesden Studios.”

Though studio execs say Leavesden will never become a theme park, like it’s Universal Orlando cousin The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the U.K.’s Watford Observer reports that they expect to welcome up to 6,000 visitors a day.

What do you think, girlies? Will you be adding a trip to London and Leavesden to your wishlist?
