Olivia Rodrigo celebrates the first anniversary of "drivers license"
Happy anniversary, "drivers license"! This weekend marked one year since Olivia Rodrigo released her hit song to widespread praise. In no time, "drivers license" made it onto playlists, For You pages and even famous nomination lists—it's currently up for several Grammy awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Olivia took to Instagram to celebrate the track's first birthday, posting a video of herself performing "drivers license" just days after writing it.
"Happy first birthday to the little song that changed my whole life," she wrote in her caption, reflecting on the song's rapid journey to chart-topping success and thanking everyone for the outpouring of love and support she's received.
It's no wonder "drivers license" feels so emotional and real—the start of the track was pulled straight from the pages of Olivia's diary. She told The New York Times last year, “And I was looking through my diary, actually recently, and I literally wrote, ‘I got my driver’s license last week.’ And that was the opening of my diary entry and it’s the opening of the song." Her personal milestone soon became iconic lyrics *everyone* would belt out by heart—and also served as the lead single on Olivia's debut album, Sour.
We can't wait to see what Olivia does next! And while we all excitedly await the Sour tour, let's celebrate the song that started it all—jam out to the "drivers license" music video with us rn:
