Sam & Cat is...cancelled?!

We were devastated when news broke this week that Nickelodeon’s hit show Sam & Cat had been cancelled after only one season. Our August/September 2013 cover girls Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy were the stars of the show that allowed them to reprise their roles as Cat Valentine (Victorious) and Sam Puckett (iCarly). We laughed so hard at each new episode since the series premiered last summer. But now we’re crying at the thought that episode No. 36 ("#Getting Wiggy") will in fact be its last.

A rep for Nickelodeon opened up to Deadline this week, saying, “Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of Sam & Cat. We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best.”

Did we see it coming? The show, after all, was allegedly put on a permanent hiatus back in April due to rumored drama behind the scenes. But whether this cancellation was caused by supposed rifts between the stars’ unequal pay or the fact that Ariana’s singing career has taken off while Jennette has been taking time for herself, the good news is that there seems to be no hard feelings from at least one of the show’s leading ladies.

Ariana took to Twitter yesterday, where she addressed the sitch to her 16.5 million followers. Ariana expressed how thankful she is for what not only what Nickelodeon gave her, but for what she was able to learn from Cat Valentine.

“When I was younger, people loved Cat so much I used to pretend to be more like her,” she wrote. “It took me a long time to be brave enough to separate myself and show people how different we actually are.... I think that's honestly because I admire her so much.”

She went on to tell us what she thinks should happen in Cat’s future, and we will be the first to say that we like what she has in mind: “Hopefully we'll find out one day if Cat & Robbie ever got married. If I had any say in the story from here on out I'd make sure they were happily married with sweet, eccentric, Jewish, artificially red headed babies. Cat would constantly find herself reminding Aunt Sam to leave the butter sock and other dangerous weapons out of the house. They'd live down the street from Jade and Beck, also happily married with purple and black haired, pale, grungy, beautiful, goth babies. :)”

You can read Ariana’s heartfelt letter about the show in full right here.

It’s going to be super weird not seeing these characters on our TV screens anymore after watching them go from iCarly and Victourous to Sam & Cat, but we know that both of these starlets’ futures are extremely bright. Thanks, Sam Puckett and Cat Valentine, for all of the laughs and moments that have brought us all together. And while we gear up for the big finale, we’re taking one final trip down memory lane when we interviewed the two stars right before Sam & Cat premiered. (Take a look here.)
