5 sappy shows and movies for your coming-of-age era
We're not the first ones to say it and we certainly won't be the last: Growing up is complicated. Sometimes, the best way to reflect on the life changes happening around you is finding comfort in our onscreen faves. Here are five shows and movies to play when you need to feel like the main character for a moment.
1. High School Musical 3: Senior Year
So...is this one even up for debate? Not only will this movie leave you *super* nostalgic, it also goes through all the great senior year moments from prom to graduation. If you're looking for something that will help you treasure every last milestone, join Troy and Gabriella for a final year of love, self-discovery and growth. Not to mention, it's the perf sing-along movie for a movie night with your childhood bsfs.
2. Girl Meets World
As the spin-off of Boy Meets World, this Disney show has got coming-of-age written all over it. Riley and Maya (aka Sabrina Carpenter!) have been through it all as they've navigated relationships, high school popularity and entering womanhood. If you're feeling particularly sentimental, get out a box of tissues as you watch Riley and Maya grow up by the iconic bay window. You're ready to take on the world!
3. To All the Boys: Always and Forever
Another high school trilogy, the finale of Jenny Han's To All the Boys I've Loved Before is perfect for anyone feeling sappy 'n' sentimental about their hometown. From senior spring break, to college decisions to prom all while being at a crossroads with her high school sweetheart, Lara Jean shares so many of the realities that come with getting older.
4. Never Have I Ever
If there's one character that's undergone dramatic self-growth, it's Devi. Not only is our girl going through the traumatic process that is college app szn, she's also on a journey of healing relationships with her mom, friends and herself. Especially for those of you highly anticipating graduating high school and entering college, this show is the one for you.
5. Gilmore Girls
The (un)official comfort show of fall just entered the chat. From her high school days to juggling uncertain career paths, Rory Gilmore has definitely been through the major coming-of-age moments. If you're uncertain about starting a new school, gearing up for graduation, being on your own for the first time or feeling lost about what to do with the rest of your life, Rory is your girl.
