Happy Mean Girls Day! Here are 5 fetch takeaways from the classic flick
You wanna do something fun? You wanna go to Taco Bell...and take a trip down memory lane?
PSA: Today is October 3, aka Mean Girls Day for all those who celebrate. And this year is pretty special, considering it marks the classic movie's 20th (!) anniversary.
Whether you're celebrating by screening the new Mean Girls: The Musical, joining the mathletes, or sending candy-grams to all your loved ones, it's time to make fetch happen (again). Let's revisit the OG movie, which has definitely taught us a thing or two about navigating mean girls, school, friends and love interests. Here are five key takeaways that prove we can all learn a little from the likes of Regina...
1. Everyone has insecurities, from homeschooled jungle freaks to mean girls
It may seem like those girls in your math class have it all figured out, but trust us: No one does. From the greatest people you will ever meet to the worst, everyone is dealing with something and looking at someone else. While the Plastics may seem perfect and shiny on the outside, Mean Girls shows us that anyone can be insecure and pick at themselves in the mirror. Tbh, we're all just human beings who don't feel our best 24/7...and that's all normal!
2. Don't dumb yourself down...your limit does not exist!
You should never dumb yourself down, *especially* for that cutesy hallway crush. Sure, Cady may have gotten the guy in the end, but it wasn't because she purposely failed calculus. She ultimately decided to stay true to herself and let her skills shine through. Our homeschooled animal-lover turned prom queen can lead the math team to victory *and* get the guy. Verdict? It's time to own just how amazing you are.
3. It's "grool" to be vulnerable
Tbh, baking a cake out of rainbows and smiles is just what we need. Being vulnerable and honest with each other is such an important part of our everyday relationships. After all, each person has their own story and we owe it to each other to try to understand them. Ofc, you don't need to share your feelings in front of a huge crowd, but it never hurts to apologize...the girlies are here to catch you!
4. "Suck the poison out" (aka, make amends!)
We can all learn a thing or two from Cady when she takes it upon herself to "suck the poison" out of her life. From visiting Regina with flowers to apologizing to Ms. Norbury, Cady made amends with the people she hurt and did her best to become a better version of herself, like trying not to talk about people behind their backs, as she says. She reminds us that despite all our mistakes, the most important thing is to make peace with the people in our lives.
5. Burn the book and build each other up
Burn Book = jungle madness, so let's support one another instead of attacking people we didn't have the opportunity to get to know. Although Mean Girls shows a toxic environment of girls shaming one another, it's a reminder for us all to treat each other with kindness! Tbh, let's leave the Burn Book in 2004.
