Back-to-school outfits based on our fave albums of 2023
We've been living in our headphones with so many exciting music releases this year (from boygenuis' first record since 2018 to the much-anticipated Speak Now rerecording). As back-to-school season approaches, what better way to pick a first-day fit than to base it on the tunes you have on repeat? With five stylish assembles inspired by our fave 2023 albums to choose from, you'll be ready to crush your first day (and receive a smile from a hallway cutie).
Speak Now (Taylor's Version)
Dress, $23 | Shoes, $26 | Headband, $26 | Earrings, $14
As the latest addition to Taylor Swift's discography, Speak Now (Taylor's Version) exudes a magical, romantic vibe. To capture this "Enchanted" aesthetic, all you need is a dress in a shade of lilac or lavender, a pair of bow-adorned ballet flats, a floral-inspired headband and a set of dainty pearl earrings. This outfit will make you feel less like a stressed student on the 8 a.m. bus and more like a whimsical main character riding in a horse-drawn carriage.
Good Riddance
Top, $50 | Pants, $63 | Shoes, $90 | Belt, $48 | Necklace, $12
With her debut album released in February to critical acclaim, Gracie Abrams is currently ruling the world, and we are *so* here for it. Good Riddance is packed full of melodic sad girl anthems, songs that suit a simple fit with elevated accents. Tan trousers, a black square neck body suit, brown Converse, a chunky belt and a beaded bow necklace fit will have you ready for any class presentation (just don't forget to plug in "Right now" before heading for the podium).
the record
T-shirt, $35 | Vest, $28 | Pants $31 | Shoes, $25 | Sunglasses $34
Calling all fans of the indie-rock supergroup: we have the perfect chill fit inspired by boygenuis' new album the record. Preppy yet relaxed, all you need to create this first-day fit is a graphic T-shirt, mom jeans, a vest, chunky black shoes and round sunglasses. Whether proofreading articles for your school's newspaper or completing physics homework in the local coffee shop with friends, this stylish ensemble will carry you all throughout your packed day.
Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd
Top, $37 | Skirt, $26 | Shoes, $40 | Earrings, $50 | Bow, $8
Coquete girlies unite; Lana Del Rey has penned her latest album and we're just as obsessed with its bow-filled, lacey and feminine aesthetic as we are with its soft vocals and show-stopping instrumentals. To capture the Ocean Blvd essence, pair a ruffly pink skirt with a cream cardi, Mary Janes, an oversized bow and heart-shaped earrings. You'll not only look "Sweet" but will also be ready to tackle any academic challenge with grace and elegance.
GUTS
Top, $35 | Skirt, $24 | Shoes, $210 | Lipstick, $9
Rejoice, Livies! With the announcement of Olivia Rodrigo's upcoming album GUTS, we're currently in our "vampire" era. While her second record does have a similar vibe to SOUR (peep the purple comeback), it differentiates itself with darker and edgier elements (and adds bright red to her signature color scheme). You can cop this look by combining a flowy white skirt, a black corset top, platform combat boots and a blood-red lip (lilac bandaids are optional, but encouraged).
