How to spice up your school uniform

Having to wear a school uniform can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, you totally avoid the hassle of getting up a little earlier every morning and having to decide what to wear. (Plus, who doesn't want to dress like they stepped straight out of a Gossip Girl episode?) On the other, it can be tough to stand out at school and establish your own unique style when your day-to-day outfit looks exactly like everyone else's. Depending on your school's dress code, you might be able to add some much-needed individuality to your everyday look. If that sounds like your sitch, read on for six simple ways to spice up your school uniform.

It's in the bag

One of the easiest ways to liven up a boring school uniform is by carrying a bag or backpack that you feel is *so* you. Buy something in your fave color or in a bold pattern. You can even add cute keychains, buttons or pins that represent your personality and interests. You need somewhere to put all of your school-day necessities, so you might as well have some fun with it!

Make your manicure your own

Nailed it! (Your back-to-school manicure, that is.) Getting your nails done for school is not only an instant confidence booster, but it's also a smart (yet subtle) way to make a fashion statement even when you're stuck wearing a uniform. So, why not ring in the season with a fab fall nail color? We suggest a brilliant burgundy or a dazzling dark green. Or, if you're feeling especially adventurous, go for an intricate design. Whatever your mani mood, there are plenty of opportunities to make it your own.

Have fun with your footwear

While most schools usually require you to wear shoes like sneakers, you can still get creative! For instance, rocking sneaks in a bright color will add some effortless pizzazz to your look. If you're feeling a little limited with your shoe choices or just prefer to wear something simpler, you can always make your socks stand out instead. Do you find yourself sticking to the basic neutral tones? Switch things up with wild patterns, catchy slogans, interesting colors (think delicate pastel hues or daring jewel tones) or even dressy embellishments like frills. Remember, your footwear can completely upgrade your uniform.

Create a makeup routine

Your clothes might have to look super dull, but that's where makeup comes in. You don't have to go overboard, especially if your school has extra strict rules, but experimenting with a bold eyeliner or sparkly shadow can add some *you* to your uniform. Whether you stick to a more natural, understated look or want to go full glam, figuring out your own makeup routine before school starts will definitely help you brighten things up.

Experiment with different hairstyles

Don't forget about your crowning glory! Heading back to school is always a great opportunity to try out some new 'dos—and that goes double for the uniformed gals. Snooze your alarm one too many times? Opt for a chic messy bun. Need something to keep your hair out of your face while taking notes? A fabulous claw clip is your best friend. Want to have a total Blair Waldorf moment of your own? Let your locks down and put on that iconic headband, bb! The possibilities are endless when it comes to head-turning hairstyles.

Jazz things up with your jewelry

Jewelry is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings and even watches will add some simple sparkle to your look. Try out different statement pieces to see what works best for you. And just take it from us—wearing some jewelry will sooo help your getup go from dull to dazzling.
