The 20 fashion trends that caught our eye in 2020

Let's face it—this year might not have been the *best* year ever, but it did serve us with some fabulous fashion looks. From tennis skirts to tie-dye, we're recapping 20 trends that caught our eye this year before we say so long to 2020.

Matching lounge sets

One good thing about being stuck at home a lot this year? It was the perfect excuse to wear lounge clothes all the time. Thanks to the pandemic, lounge clothes were totally acceptable (and super cute) to wear in public this year.

Flare pants

Harry Styles wasn't the only person who could rock a pair of flare pants in 2020. From bell-bottom jeans to funky palazzo pants, this boho trend was all over the runways (and our Instagram feeds) this year.

Tennis skirts

Pleated skirts were trendy both on and off the tennis courts this year. We loved this sporty look, paired with a cute tank top and platform sneakers.

Had a bad hair day? Or maybe you just wanted to channel some Outer Banks vibes. Bandanas and headscarves were a popular hair trend this year. They brought a colorful, beachy vibe to any outfit.

Sweater over a button-down

Wearing a sweater over a simple button-down was *def* a trend that gave us major 90s vibes. Who doesn't love a good throwback moment? Not to mention, layering these two trendy pieces was a great way to utilize both your fall and winter wardrobes.

Animal print pants

Animal print pants were the *perf* way to pull a quick outfit together. These bold pants are a statement piece and will make you look like a total fashion queen.

Tiny sunglasses

Tiny shades were all the rage this year. They were fab for making your outfit Insta-worthy. And somehow, tiny glasses always seemed to pull a whole look together.

Bucket hats

Another '90s trend that made a comeback this year? Bucket hats. Donned by Kylie Jenner and runway models alike, this relaxed accessory brought an easygoing aesthetic to any look.

Ruched fabric

Ruched sleeves or necklines instantly make an outfit look more put together, so we loved seeing this flirty fabric trend in 2020.

Mini purses

They might not be the most practical for holding your wallet, phone, emergency makeup and other purse knickknacks, but you have to admit that the mini purse trend was adorable.

Platform white sneakers

Looking for a comfy shoe that works with almost *any* outfit? Platform white sneakers were all over Insta this year. Dress down any look by throwing on a pair of old kicks.

Cute masks

We needed to wear protective face masks in public this year to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19, so many companies started producing masks with fun colors and designs. What could be better than staying healthy *and* looking cute?

Headbands

This hair accessory *finally* came back in style this year, and we couldn't be more excited to keep rocking them in our hair every day.

Leather leggings

Black leggings will always be a fashion fave, and this year, they got 10x trendier. Everyone was rocking leather leggings, and it stepped up the loungewear game *a lot* (we love to see it).

Chain necklaces

Girls were looking *icy* with some bling around their necks this year. We hope the stacked necklace trend will continue into 2021, because jewelry always adds a little bit of glam to any look.

We were here for this '60s-inspired trend that made a comeback this year. Even better? You can make your own custom tie-dye pattern with a plain t-shirt, rubber bands and a dye kit.

Another athleisure trend that made the rounds on Insta this year? Sweat shorts. These comfy bottoms were perfect for jogging or just hanging around the house.

Sweater tank tops

One of the biggest summer trends this year was sweater tank tops. Insta gals and runway models wore them in tons of patterns and knit styles, from argyle to fuzzy to houndstooth.
