6 nail trends to try this summer
We're calling it: it's officially the summer of Getting Crafty With It. And this year, we're nailing it...literally. After all, what's a set of nails if not 10 tiny canvasses?
Knick Knack Nails
"I love knick-knack nails (aka junk nails)," says celebrity manicurist Sonya Meesh. "You can attach basically anything to your mani with some nail glue or apply fun nail art tattoos." Meesh recommends the Inked by Dani Color Nail Art Tattoos ($10, inkedbydani.com) or you can go 3D with colorful gems like GA&EN Iridescent 3D Crystals ($10, amazon.com).
Marble Nails
Start by picking out your favorite polishes (avoid any gel polish that would need to be cured under a UV light). Then, using a small bowl full of lukewarm water, carefully dot the brush of a polish on the water's surface until a bit of polish spreads out into a circle on the water. Repeat with different colors, layering until you like the mix. Carefully drag a toothpick from the outside of the circle toward the center all around the circle. Wrap your finger in tape so just your nail is exposed then dip your finger (nail-first), into the middle of the circle. Slowly pull it out and watch the polish create a marble pattern on your nail. Clean up, then let dry.

Doll Nails
This trend is exactly what it sounds like: nails that look like a doll's (it's no surprise that Margot Robbie has worn it on the red carpet). It's simple, pretty and easy to recreate—simply use a skin-toned polish that matches your complexion.
Sheer Genius
"Jelly nails are so bright and fun," says celeb nail artist and CEO of Nailing Hollywood Mazz Hanna. Apply two coats of a translucent polish to each nail to give them a gummy bear-like pop of color. "You can go subtle with a delicate pink or bold with vibrant blues, greens or purples," she shares.
Magnetic Mani
If you don't have the steadiest hand, but still love nail art, using a magnetic polish is easy to do at home. "Apply it like any other regular gel nail polish, then use a magnet (it should be provided with the polish) near your nails to create different patterns," says Hanna. The magnetic filaments will move with the direction of the magnet like magic!
Add a Tip
A French mani is always on trend, but rainbow micro-French tips? So cute! "Begin by applying a base coat, followed by a nude or sheer pink polish for the classic French manicure base," says Hanna. Then, use a thin polish brush to add a playful twist. "Try out multicolored French tips using pastel colors, glitter or chrome," she says. Keep the lines super thin and use an eyeliner brush with a little bit of acetone to clean up any mistakes.
