Your ultimate guide to sparkly holiday makeup
You best believe we're still bejeweled this holiday season. The dazzle is in the details...or in this case, shimmery shadows, gleamy gemstones and glazed skin. Here's to harnessing that halo glow and making the whole place shimmer.
Lit lids and lips
Forget limiting glitter to just one area of your face. “I love the combination of glitter eyes and lips—and they are both easy to pull off,” says Euphoria makeup artist Donni Davy.
Pat a shimmery shadow all over your lids (from your lash line to just above your crease). Next, apply a glimmering gloss on top of your fave lipstick. Finish the look by defining your lashes with a coat of black mascara. Now you’re ready to party.

Diamond skin
Body glitter can be...tricky, but Davy loves “subtle, super fine sparkle on the collarbones and shoulders. It looks so pretty and delicate,” she says. For a filtered effect, use a fluffy brush to dust a loose highlighting powder onto your skin.
Try: L.A. Colors Large Powder Brush, $7, lacolors.com & L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Shimmerista Loose Highlighting Powder, $7, amazon.com
Liquid glitz
All hail the glazed doughnut aesthetic: It’s giving dewy without looking greasy.
“The wet effect looks so dreamy,” says makeup artist Gabi Alvarez. First, hit your cheeks and lids with a bit of fluid highlighter, then apply a sheer, shimmery shadow to the high points of your cheekbones and brow bones for extra dimension. Add a clear gloss to your lips to look like a Krispy Kreme display...in the best way.
Try: About-Face Light Lock Highlight Fluid, $18, aboutface.com & ColourPop Jelly Much Shadow in Close To You, $9, colourpop.com
Sparkling stones
If you’re not a genius with a makeup brush, rhinestones are a simple way to add some serious sparkle. For an understated vibe, place one on the inside corner of each eye. Craving a bolder look? Apply them around your entire eye, along the lower lash line and above your crease (we love the Bakeup Playbox by Jo Baker because they are self-adhesive, so you don’t need glue).
One quick rule to applying rhinestones? “Make sure your skin is dry and oil-free so they stick,” shares Alvarez.

Gradient glitter
Give your nails an ombré effect by applying two layers of sheer nude polish. “Once the polish is dry, paint glitter polish on a makeup sponge and lightly dab it on the nail from the tip to the nail bed, focusing mostly on the tip to build up the glitter coverage,” says nail artist Alena Monson. Finish with a clear top coat for extra shine.
Try: Zoya PixieDust Nail Polish in Bar Magical, $12, amazon.com
Tinsel tips
Tinsel on a tree? So pretty. Tinsel on your nails? Absolutely gorgeous. “I love the look of mylar embedded in polish,” says nail artist Tamara Di Lullo.
Add a gleaming top coat (we love Olive & June Long Lasting Polish in Jelly Baby) over any color, then get ready to glow brighter than the spruce.
