Volumizing hairstyles for the thin hair girlies
We can change a lot about our hair—hair color, hairstyle, haircut, even hair scent! But one thing we can’t seem to change? The thickness. Based on the diameter of each individual hair strand, the thickness of your hair is determined almost completely by genetics.
For girls with thin or fine hair, this can be a little disheartening. With fine hair, holding volume or curls is nearly impossible. Cute beachy waves may fall out within the hour, and a typically voluminous layered cut may end up looking like you’re just due for another trip to the salon. But fret not, thin-haired girlies! It’s possible to create the illusion of volume, and we’ve rounded up the styles that will do your delicate hair justice.
The blunt bob
The blunt cut is a thin-haired girlie go-to. The straight snip creates an illusion of thickness, and keeps your hair looking super fresh. The short bob also requires little upkeep and almost zero styling—just clip a cute barette or sport a sassy headband to level up the look. Rowan Blanchard and Hailey Bieber are the ultimate celeb blunt bob inspo.
The face frame
If you're wishing you could rock some Matilda Djerf-style layers (literally same), you're not alone—and if you have thin hair, you can still get the effect with a gentle face frame. Plus, the shorter pieces in the front make for the perfect messy bun money pieces.
The wispy bangs
Take advantage of your thin hair by trying out some feathery bangs. Unlike the traditional bang, this delicate alternative is oh-so-trendy. Celebs like Selena Gomez, Dakota Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen have all sported this sassy cut. And the best part? Wispy bangs are meant to look cute and casual—and we love a low-maintenance lewk. Pair it with a clip-in bow for ultimate cuteness.
The shag cut
Whether you're in your Taylor Swift "Lover" era or currently feeling "Happier Than Ever" (by Billie Eilish, ofc), the shag cut will def keep you on-trend. Perf for almost all hair types, the shag look (think: gentle layers and side-swept bangs in a lob length) is sassy and oh-so stylish. Brb, entering our rockstar era.
The deep side-part
OK, we know the side-part might be a little 2014, but hear us out. For thin hair, the side part provides volume you just can't get with a classic middle part. When styled correctly, you can get a voluminous cut that mimics a fresh blowout. Don't believe us? Margot Robbie and Madelyn Cline have both been donning fab side parts on the red carpet in 2023. A win for the thin-haired girls.
The classic lob
Another thin hair staple. Long enough to throw up in a bun when needed, but short enough to keep that thin hair looking voluminous. Want to give your classic mid-length lob some much-needed volume? Look no further than the inverted lob. Cascading from a bob in the back to shoulder-length in the front, this look is another no-blowout-needed volume illusion we're obsessed with.
The pixie
Into that ethereal vibe? The pixie cut will always do you right. Dainty and, well, pixie-like, this short-hair look gives us all the fairycore energy. Ever since Emma Watson served us manic pixie dream girl realness in teen drama Perks of Being A Wallflower, we've been lowkey wanting to try a cute short cut ourselves. And ofc, zero styling needed (except for some styling putty, ofc). Perf for gals on the go.
