The ultimate eye makeup guide for embracing your monolids
Monolids are gorgeous.
This is a lesson I've come to learn through a rather long and difficult journey. Being someone born with "changing" eyelids, I've experienced both sides: days with double eyelids and days with monolids. I can tell you that the majority of my late middle school life involved monolid days, and that was also when I first began to explore makeup.
But there was one big problem: Why did those eye makeup tutorials online not work on me?
As I've grown older, I've learned to appreciate the beauty of my eyes—no matter how many folds I can count. I am proud of my heritage, and I should never hide that in my makeup.
Many girls struggle with this same dilemma. Those online tutorials just don't work, while others recommend items such as eyelid tape or glue.
It's about time to dismantle that trend. It's time to embrace your monolids, because you don't need to change a thing about them.
Eyeshadow
Because of the different facial structures that many monolid girlies have, Western eyeshadow tutorials can be difficult to follow. But fear not!
To enhance your beautiful monolids, you can use *any* color palette you like, whether it's soft or bold. My suggestion? Extend the eyeshadow to the outer corner of your eye, and then connect it to the bottom lash line (check out the image below if you need a visual guide). Layer your color choices thoughtfully, and maybe even go for an ombré effect.
Having your eyeshadow connect to your bottom lash line also provides the opportunity to show off another popular element of K-beauty: the aegyo sal. Use a special glitter product like the COLORGRAM Milk Bling Shadow to draw a little under-eye line. It's a viral and stunning addition to your makeup game.
Lashes
The struggle is real and oh-so relatable: Mascara keeps ending up on your eyelid, and then it doesn't even hold the curl in your lashes.
When curling your lashes, work your way up the lash to get a curl throughout the entire length. Don't pull! There are tons of choices of mascara, but I've found that ones made with smaller or curved application wands are helpful (for not getting black globs on your eyelid!). I totally recommend the Kissme Heroine Make Mascara.
Eyeliner
Perhaps one of the trickiest parts of any makeup routine is nailing your eyeliner. One key trick is to extend from your natural eye line. You can choose to use a liquid eyeliner such as the Kissme Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Eyeliner Super Keep, a cream eyeliner such as the COLORGRAM Artist Formula Cream liner or just your eyeshadow of choice with a liner brush.
Limitless options
Most importantly, remember to explore... and maybe even try your own creative looks. Your monolids allow for countless possibilities in the art of makeup, and no matter how that tutorial looks on you, know that your eyes are so incredibly beautiful.
