The Brave One

Her mother told her everyday before she said goodbye,
That she was, beautiful, kind and brave,
And to always remember why.

Her mother told her to never forget what she had survived,
That time when all was lost and dark,
A time of hurt and lies.

Her mother stroked her hair softly, and took her held her hands and smiled,
"You've done so much, sometimes I forget,
You're only just a child."

Her mother claimed she had a special soul, and said to always believe,
But the girl just turned away and cried,
"Then why did daddy leave?"
