Eyes

You stood before your father’s eyes.
The truth, the hurt, and all the lies.
The things well hid, the secrets known.
Some days you want to let it go.

I stood before my father’s eyes.
Sometimes I want to run and hide.
The things I hide, what he won’t know.
My smiles, sometimes just for show.

You stood before my searching eyes.
You stood right there and told me lies.
You called mine out but hid yours well.
But through this all, we didn’t yell.

I stood before your knowing eyes.
You knew the truth I couldn’t hide.
You smile, say it’s all okay.
I hardly even remember that day.

You hide behind your phone this time.
Miles away, but we still fight.
Things cool down, my jaw drops.
Things click in my mind and then time stops.

I’m far away from your brown eyes.
We talk these days all the time.
Things have changed, that’s easy to tell.
And finally, today, I’m happy as well.
