Our friends over at Club zed let us try out their new virtual pets—and they're doggone addictive. Here's the deal!

The Pumpets are a new world of virtual pets delivered straight to your mobile phone. These cute, cheeky and sometimes naughty (bad Pumpet!) creatures demand your attention even when you're not playing with them. That makes Pumpets way more fun and friendly than just the average game!

YOUR MISSION (should you choose to accept it): Train YOUR e-pal to become the world's most perfect pet. Or at least stop it from eating your homework!

INSIDE SCOOP: Your Pumpet will only be as good as your parenting skills. (We ended up spoiling ours!) So you'll wanna manage your credits carefully to keep your Pumpet healthy and happy. Feed it, but don't give it too many sweets. Exercise it, but don't wear it out. Most importantly, watch out for alerts and messages when your Pumpet wakes itself up and has something important to tell you!

CUSTOMIZING IS COOL! You can name your Pumpet, customize the way it looks, and design the interior of its house! There's also an online store where you can get your Pumpet things it needs on a day-to-day basis, plus extras to handle special sitches (like improving your Pumpet's strength, speed, mental agility and general health).

GIMME GIMME! You can only adopt these fab friends from Club zed, where you can score a shmorgasboard of cool wallpapers, ringtones, and other sweet stuff for your phone.

The fine print: Memberships start at $9.99/month, billed to your phone carrier. Once you're in the club, you can download up to 30 goodies every 30 days. (For those non-mathletes out there, that's like $0.33 each!) Parental controls available, too.
