10 ways to make your mornings happier and healthier

 

Got off to a little bit of a rough start this morning? Bust those A.M. blues with these 10 quick'n'easy fixes.

1. Hydrate.

Drink a large glass of water first thing when you get up in the morning. It's a natural energy boost, and cool water can help wake you up.

2. Take time to eat.

Most important meal of the day, right? It might seem easy to grab an energy bar and go, but taking time to eat a full, balanced breakfast with protein, carbs and fiber can help you stay focused and full until lunch.

3. Ditch the coffee.

Seriously. It sounds great now, but it can cause caffeine reliance and crashes. Plus, sugary frapps and lattes are loaded with unneccessary calories. Get your fix with green tea instead—it's *so* good for your skin.

4. Get moving.

If waking up early for a real workout seems unrealistic, do a few jumping jacks and squats to get your heart pumping. (If you're the kind of girl that can jump out of bed at 5 for a jog, even better!)

5. Go green.

Grab a green juice or whip up a kale smoothie for a nutrient-packed start to your day. You'll be practically glowing by the end of the week.  

6. Keep it cool.

Hot showers are fab, but they can dry your hair and skin out considerably. Also not great? That warm water can make you want to curl up and go back to sleep. Turn down the temp for a healthier bod and a little pick-me-up.

7. Look good, feel good.

Dress professionally, put on a little makeup, do you hair...whatever makes you feel pretty and put-together! Wearing too-comfy clothes or basically rolling out of bed and onto the bus doesn't get you in the right frame of mind for a busy day.

8. When life gives you lemons....

Squeeze 'em into your water bottle. Lemons are natural energy-boosters and can kickstart your metabolism in the morning.

9. Spice it up.

Speaking of metabolism, sprinkle some cinnamon into your tea or onto your breakfast for additional boosting benefits.

10. Smile.

Show those pearly whites! It might feel silly, but give yourself a grin in the mirror before heading out. If you don't believe in yourself, who will?
