Hey there, brainiac! Give GL's insta-smarty pants workout a try

There’s no doubt that it’s important to give our body a workout, but make sure you aren’t forgetting to give your brain a workout too! No, we’re not talking about studying or doing homework. We’re talking about normal, everyday activities that will actually train your brain! By doing these types of things, you’ll train your brain to learn more effectively, improve the basic skills of thinking, and increase attention, memory and processing.

Step One: Play Brain Training Games

Despite the rumors that video games are actually bad for your brain, there are some that will help strengthen it. Try visiting some brain game websites, or downloading a few apps on your phone. Many of them allow you to choose which area of your brain you want to workout, and you’ll find that these games may actually be more fun than you thought.

Step Two: Read a Book

Spend a day at the library choosing a few books that look interesting to you. Reading does nothing but stimulate your imagination. While you’re reading, you can’t help but draw up what characters look like in your mind, or make up your own ending to the book. The more imaginative you are, the more your working those brain cells, so read, read, read.

Step Three: Catch some zzz’s

Not getting enough sleep can cause an interference with your brain’s ability to absorb new info. In order to perform it’s best, your brain needs lots of rest. Make sure that next time you study you don’t cram it all into the night before. Giving your brain time to absorb the info will definitely help you ace those tests.

Step Four: Get Some Exercise

Physical exercise isn’t just to make your bod look good, but it also helps make your brain bigger and better. Cardio workouts will help get your blood flowin’ to your brain, and improve in cognitive functioning. So next time you don’t feel like working out, just remember that you’re benefiting your brain, too.

Step Five: Eat Breakfast

Lots of people think that skipping breakfast is a good way to lose weight. Don’t do it! Eating breakfast is essential in getting your day started, and it’s been proven that teens that eat breakfast do better on tests. Try eating lots of carbs and protein in the morning. It’ll give you lots of energy and will keep you full longer.
