Your guide to making New Year's resolutions you'll *actually* keep

If you're anything like us, this happens to you year after year: You make a bunch of new year's resolutions you *swear* that you'll keep. But by the end of January, you've already reverted back to your usual ways. We totally get it: New year's resolutions are hard to keep. At a certain point, tbh, they feel useless.

By using simple goal-setting techniques, you can start making new year's resolutions you'll *actually* keep! Read on to hear our tips for making rezzies that'll last you through 2023 and beyond...

1. Be realistic

Setting goals is an important part of entering a new year. First, do some self-searching to find out exactly what you want to accomplish this year—then, break that into meaningful (but realistic) steps. Reaching a million followers on TikTok within the first few months of 2023? Probably not gonna happen (hey, a girl can dream). But getting 1,000 views on a post? Definitely doable.

2. Be specific

Think about your favorite activities, whether it's school, dance, theater or even relationships. Write at least two goals based specifically on each one. Goals can be as specific as "I will get an A in geometry this year." Personalize it so you'll feel more motivated to meet the particular goal. Being specific helps you see precisely what you can achieve.

3. Make measurable goals

Create a timeline! As you write your goals, add an expected accomplishment date next to it. Remember to hold yourself accountable to reaching goals by certain times of the year. For example, if starting a business is one of your goals, you may need more than a few weeks to launch. Give yourself time to reach your dreams—don't rush!

4. Document your progress

You'll be more consistent with keeping up with your resolutions if you find a way to document your progress. Consider starting an Instagram account where you post pics of your fitness journey or creating a Word Doc with all the new recipes you tried this year. The goal is to motivate yourself to continue working towards this resolution even when you're feeling unmotivated or uninspired. The best part about this is that you can look back on how far you've come over the course of the year. You go, girl!

5. Don't beat yourself up if things go differently

Look, we get it: Things change. Unavoidable circumstances could get in the way of you achieving your resolutions. It's OK if you have to change your resolution or if things don't go originally to plan.

6. Reward yourself when you reach milestones

As we all know, keeping up with a resolution is hard work. So don't be afraid to treat yourself when you reach a milestone. Whether it's splurging on a new pair of AirPods after snagging that internship or buying that luxurious hardcover novel set you've been wanting after reaching your reading goal, you deserve a little something special!

7. Make a vision board

Vision boards are a creative and fun way to visually see all of your goals for the year. Grab a bunch of old magazines to cut out photos. Or you can even make a digital vision board on Canva (use Pinterest for fab pics). Vision boards allow you to get motivated—and you can clearly see your goals for 2023. Now let's start making goals for the year!
