5 tips for the perfect Insta-worthy solo photo shoot
You bought the cutest new outfit for spring, and you have the perfect vision for an Insta-worthy shot. It's golden hour...and the vibes in your backyard *exactly* match the Pinterest-picture aesthetic in your mind. There's just one problem: You have no one to take your photo.
Tbh, we've all been there. Sometimes, there isn't anyone around, and other times, you're just sick of making your younger brother figure out your perfect selfie angles. Lucky for you, we have your super easy guide to a successful (and independent!) photo shoot.
1. Tripod
The first step is finding a photographer replacement. We recommend investing in an inexpensive iPhone tripod from Amazon. Posing for a phone stand might feel a little silly at first, but it is a simple and effective way to get the picture of your dreams. It's honestly easier than trying to describe your vision to someone else—this way, you get to set the whole shot up for yourself. P.S. Don't worry about what others think if you choose to take your tripod in public. Just wait until they see your beautiful post on their feed!
2. Apps
Next, figure out *how* you want to take your pics. Some tripods come with their own clickers, which you can press from a distance to take a photo of yourself. If you can't figure out a way to hide the remote while posing, we have some backup—do not fear! Everyone knows the classic timer cam option, but sometimes it gets tiring running back and forth to reset the shot. Free apps like LensBuddy should become your new BFF. LensBuddy takes continuous photos and allows you to set specifics, like how many pictures you want to take, how much time you want between them and more. This gives you plenty of time to focus on modeling. You look great, BTW!
3. Lighting
A key to elevating any photo is finding the best lighting. Especially when taking a solo shot, lighting can make or break your post. We get it, not everyone has a giant ring light, but that's OK! We're all about that natural lighting. When taking photos inside, set your tripod up in front of a window, or if you're outside, pose facing the sun. Voila, you'll look like a *glowing goddess* in no time.
4. Props
Feel awkward posing alone? Don't know what to do with your hands? Props, props, props! If you're just starting to get comfortable in front of the camera, holding a prop to pose with can make all the difference. Grab something simple that feels natural to the photo, like your favorite tote bag or that iced matcha latte you've been sipping all morning. Props can help you let loose and make the process of taking candids way less cringey.
5. Confidence
Lastly, the most important element to a successful photo shoot is self-confidence! If you take any tip from this list, it should be this one. Put on something that makes you feel good and let your personality shine through in your photos. Whether you're smizing or cheesing hard, let your glow come from the inside out. You look good, girl—now act like it!
