Happy International Women's Day! In honor of the super special day, here are 10 reasons why GL girls (and you!) celebrate being a woman. Bc being a girl is definitely something worth celebrating.

1. Knowing you have the unspoken support of other women

Sabrina M., 15, feels like she can count on the other women in her life, and that if she ever needs something, her girls will have her back. Knowing that you have the support of the other strong girls and women around you? That's a pretty awesome feeling. 

2. Having the chance to change the future of feminism

The future is *so* female. Knowing that we have the power to totally change the narrative moving forward is pretty cool. Sadly, we've been a heavily marginalized group in the past, but it's up to us to change this going forward.

3. Women live longer than men

We do have to admit...knowing that it's been scientifically proven that on average, women live longer than men, is a pretty powerful feeling. Jessica L., 15, says, "Women literally live longer than men! This makes me feel like I'll have more time to achieve my goals." 

4. We have the first say in some things

Ally D., 14, says, "In the past, we never got prioritized over men, but now, many people go to girls to ask them what they think first. My mom is *literally* my go-to for everything." If you're like us, you prob feel like the women in your life tend to have the first say. Whether you need advice or have a random question, a powerful woman in your life is probably your go-to. This just goes to show how strong women are!

5. Endless shoe possibilities

Riley Y., 16, thinks that being a woman is worth celebrating because from heels to sneakers, the shoe possibilities are truly infinite. We couldn't agree more. 

6. We're necessary for the continuation of the human race

As we mentioned earlier, the future of humanity depends on us. Without us, there wouldn't be any future population. So...yeah, we carry a lot of power. 

7. You get to prove people wrong when they think you aren't capable of something

Whether you snag a spot on the varsity soccer team or get your own book published despite the people who told you you couldn't because you're a girl, we truly have the power to prove them all wrong. And when we do show them? It's the best feeling ever.

8. Being able to have the funniest *and* deepest convos with your friends 5 minutes apart

Miriam R., 16, feels like she can have a hilarious joke with her squad that can be followed by a super deep convo. And that's why she celebrates being a girl—because our emotional maturity makes our bonds and relationships extra deep.

9. The unspoken agreement of *never* going to the restroom alone

Whether you're at an overwhelming party or are out for brunch but are scared to find the bathroom, you can trust that your girls have your back.

10. Being a part of a group of other strong women 

Being a woman is pretty awesome because you know that you're a part of a group of inspirational women. We'll all face some sort of ignorance or sexism at some point in our lives, but knowing that we're a member of a group of rockstar girls and women makes it all worth it.
