How to make a *big* difference by virtually adopting an animal
During the pandemic, you may not be able to spend time at the zoo, but that doesn't mean that you can't still connect with many *adorable* animals. Did you know that you can digitally adopt an animal at a sanctuary or other wildlife organization and get frequent updates on your new friend? By giving an injured animal a second chance, you can receive cute videos of your animal, sweet pictures, email updates, a plush toy, certificates and tons of exclusive content. During these stressful times, supporting an animal may be just what you and the animal *both* need. Here are some of the best resources for virtual adoption!
The International Animal Rescue
From elephants to slow lorises, the International Animal Rescue has *tons* of animals waiting to be adopted. One orangutan named Budi was malnourished and locked in a chicken cage for the first year of his life, but, thanks to the wonderful work of the International Animal Rescue, he learned to walk and has even joined baby school with other orangutans. Animals like Budi inspire us and show that a little bit of love and care can go a long way. Check out this adorable video of his recovery.
Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
At the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust organization, you can adopt an orphaned elephant like eighteen month old Olorian. Being abandoned and weak without milk from her mother, she was in dire need of help. Thanks to the organization, Olorian has come out of her shell and has made *many* new friends.
Aside from updates, sponsors also get *beautiful* watercolor elephant pictures by artist Angela Sheldrick.
Sloth Institute of Costa Rica
The Sloth Institute of Costa Rica strives to heal injured sloths and return them to the forest so they will live their best lives. As a sponsor, watch real-time videos of your sloth, talk to sloth experts over Skype and give a little sloth something to smile about (slowly, that is). One sloth, Elsa had muscle damage which made her legs frozen, but, with healing acupuncture therapy, Elsa is rapidly improving and may even be released back into the wild one day. Check out more sloth stories on the Sloth Diaries section of their website to see which sloth *you* connect to.
These adoption packets can be *fabulous* gifts for your fam, friends and yourself (make a hint on that holiday list!) Not only do you feel good about donating, but you also get a new animal buddy. What could be better?
