How to make friends with similar interests as you

Having a friend group with diverse interests can be super fun, but it's equally important to have friends with similar interests. These are the friends who will help you analyze the latest episode of that podcast you love, jam out with you to your favorite band or obsess with you over that new clothing line that just dropped. Imagine you just watched the season finale of Riverdale and the ending left you totally stunned. Sometimes you need a friend who just *gets* it. Of course, finding friends with similar interests as you can be tricky. Here are some tips to make it a little easier.

Join a club

@hayley.leblanc

Joining a club is one of the quickest ways to meet people with similar interests as you—and all you have to do is show up. There are sure to be plenty of friendly faces eager to start a conversation and meet new people too. Think sports clubs, book clubs, cooking club, gaming club, sewing club, math club there's bound to be an organization on campus that fits your interests. If not, consider starting one! It's a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and to embrace your unique interests.

Rock your fave merch

@maisiepeters

If you're anything like us, you probably have piles on piles of t-shirts you've collected over the years sporting your fave bands, artists, TV shows, sports teams and celebs. These items make great conversation starters and draw the attention of other fans, especially if they're iconic (Olivia Rodrigo's purple bucket hat, anyone?) Likewise, if you see a classmate showing off their Taylor Swift cardigan, don't be afraid to tell them just how much you're looking forward to Midnights. Stickers, phone cases and pins also do the trick!

Ask questions

@thatmilliedavis

Asking questions is another great way to get a conversation started about all your fave things and find out if others share those same interests. This is especially helpful when meeting someone new. If you *still* can't stop listening to "As It Was," ask the new student in your history class what they think about Harry's House. Or ask more general questions. "What kind of music do you listen to?" "What do you like to do in your free time?" This is a great way to get to know someone (and keep history class fun!), and it's even better if you find a common interest that you can obsess over together for the rest of the school year.

Be proud of your interests

@momonatamada

Not everyone will be interested in the same things you are—and that's OK. That doesn't mean you should assume that no one else shares your interests. You might find others who love the same things you do. Or you might inspire someone to give them a try. Talk about your interests with confidence. After all, you have great taste!
