What to do if you're falling for your best guy friend
You’ve been friends with him since first grade and have gone through everything together growing up. But now you think you’re developing stronger feelings for him. Which is normal because the best couples start as friends...right? It can be hard to deal with your conflicted feelings, especially because you don't want to lose such a special friendship. Read on to find out what *you* can do if you’re falling for your BGF.
Practice, practice, practice
Whatever you do, don’t rush into telling him how you feel. Make sure you really know what you want the outcome to be before you say anything. When you know the time is right, practice what you’re going to say. You’ll appear confident and strong—practice really does make perfect.
Keep it to yourself
As much as you’re dying to tell your gals how you’ve recently been crushing on one of the guys in your friend group, it's best to zip your lips (for now, at least). This will help avoid drama and awkward moments when you’re all hanging out. Your secret is way safer this way.
Be honest
At the end of the day, the only way to solve your dilemma is by letting him know exactly how you feel so when the time is right (aka when the two of you are alone and can chat privately), go for it. Even if he doesn't feel the same way, if he’s a true friend, he’ll be understanding and try to let you down easy so you can still be pals. Be prepared, though—there's a chance that once you open up, things might never be the same between the two of you. Are you ready to risk that? If not, wait and see if he gives some signs that he's into you, too before saying anything.
Now for the exciting part...how to tell him!
Reassurance: Make sure he knows that there's no pressure for him to respond or return your feelings. You understand either way.
Take it slow: Don’t overwhelm him with tons of info at once—you don’t want to rush his feelings. With more time, he may just realize that you’ve been the one all along.
Listen carefully: When you’re talking, make eye contact. Pay attention to everything your friend says, that way he’ll for sure get the feeling that you’re listening and really care about what he has to say.
Emphasize how much you value your friendship: This is a huge plus and will definitely convince your friend just how much you care about him. You want him to understand that your friendship comes first.
