Dear Carol
"Dear Carol, I want to be in a relationship—but I don't know if I'm ready yet"
Dear Carol,
So one of my friends told me that he has a crush on me...and I told him that I liked him back. And we've been talking ever since. The other day he texted me and said, "Um, can I ask you a question?" and I said sure. Then he said, "What would you say if I asked you to be my girlfriend?" I was not expecting him to ask me that. I honestly don't know what I would say if he did ask me, but I said that I think I'd say yes. I want to be in a relationship, but I don't feel I'm ready yet. Help?

Dear Guy Troubles,
First of all, you called your letter "Guy Troubles," but there are far worse problems than having a guy you like like you back. Since you two are friends, do your best to be honest with him. Say that you like him but aren't sure if you feel ready for a serious boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, though you do like the idea of hanging out with him. It's OK to take baby steps. You don't have to rush anything. You two may even be on the same page (sounds to me like he's new at this, too—that's probably why he phrased his question in such a coy way). Enjoy these feelings and if at some point you realize you'd rather just be friends, deliver that news gently. Or who knows, things between the two of you may sparkle, in which case, hooray! Spring will feel a little bit sunnier this year.
