This problem is the pits: Solve underarm discoloration with these easy steps

Picture this: You’re super pumped to slide into your new sundress for a beach day with the bests...when you realize your underarms are four shades darker than the rest of your skin. Sleeves it is.
It might sound silly, but underarm discoloration is a real issue. Sure, having dark-toned armpits might not be a serious medical condition, but it's a source of insecurity for a lot of girls. But your pits don't have to make you feel like, well, the pits. Check out these five quick and easy solutions:

1. Exfoliate your skin

Dead skin cells are one of the leading causes of armpit discoloration. Blast away those dead cells with an exfoliating sugar scrub.

2. Wax 'em

Getting a professional wax can remove tiny hairs that show up below the surface of your skin and make your underarms look dark even after you've just shaved.

3. Change up your deodorant

Irritation from chemicals in your deodorant can also cause discoloration. Try out a deodorant made especially for people with sensitive skin.

4. Try a natural remedy

Try bleaching naturally with a mix of lemon juice and yogurt or honey. Apply it to your armpits and let it sit for ten minutes before you rinse.

5. Make a visit to your dermatologist

If the problem still won't go away, you might want to see a doc—an overproduction of melanin could be the cause. Your dermatologist can supply a cream that can help slow down your melanin production and even out your tone.
