Bra shopping is way intimidating

Every bra I’ve ever had has been a hand-me-down from my older sis. So when we were after-Christmas shopping, I told my sis that I wanted to get a bra.

It was so intimidating: bra after bra! My sister said just to pick one. I looked at the same brand she was buying, but the smallest we could find was a 34A and I’m a 32A.

Then she said “Go over to the girls section,” and my heart kinda sank—so embarrassing. I couldn’t do it. This is a 13-year-old’s nightmare.

Phew, that does sound like an awkward clothes shopping trip. I’m sorry that your big sis couldn’t be more helpful. First thing to know is that department store underwear departments have women whose job it is to help you find the right size bra. It’s no sweat asking them for help—they do it all day long.

Also, hitting up the pre-teen section is no big deal either. There are lots of fun lookin’ colorful bras that are made for your size, and it’s really not a bad thing to look there.

Department stores can be really overwhelming and if you’d rather check out a less intimidating selection, try stores that have underwear for your age group. At Victoria’s Secret, the Pink line is for younger gals, and American Eagle has a line of underwear called Aerie that’s also for girls. You might also want to check out Target, where the underwear section isn’t so big, and the youth sizes aren’t all the way in their own section.

Finding the right underwear shouldn’t be so stressful. If your sis is no good at helping ya, grab a friend or your mom and get shopping!
