4 things that are killing your cardio workout

Hitting the gym this spring? Go you! But before you hop on your machine of choice (we call ellipticals!), check out these four things that are throwing a wrench into your workout routine. Are you killing your cardio? Find out…

Leaning on the machine

Resting your weight on the machine when you’re dialing up (or down) the intensity settings or hopping on or off is fine. But doing it 24/7? Yeah, that’s a big-time Don’t. Use the handles as light balance guides, but don’t rely on them to keep you on track. Instead, turn down the speed and find your footing.

Skimping on the H2O

Most of us probably keep a water bottle on hand…but only drink from it after our workout. Instead, try replacing the water your body loses through sweat as you sweat it out. Sipping a Ii’l H2O will help your bod better regulate itself…and will keep you feeling cool and refreshed 24/7.

Taking the easy way out

Yeah, you can go faster when you run on a flat surface, but when you amp up the incline, watching your speed take a hit doesn’t mean you aren’t getting in a good sweat sesh. Studies prove that adding difficulty to cardio workouts in the form of resistance improves your fitness.

Mission: Mulitasking

Sure, 30 minutes on the treadmill is wicked boring if you aren’t watching Price Is Right reruns. And yeah, it’d be nice to knock out a chapter of Tom Sawyer while you cycle a few miles. But guess what that multitasking is doing to your body? It’s making you slack off. You might think you’re burning calories on autopilot, but while you’re tuned out, your speed and intensity is suffering, and so is your form.
