Eat Right

Healthier ways to satisfy those cravings

Let’s face it, no matter how hard you try, sometimes you just can’t shake those junk food cravings.  If you’re gonna give in to your dietary dark side, try to behave yourself…at least a little.  It’s all about opting for a better-for-you alternative when you’re craving something…

Salty

Try this: Pretzels

NOT Potato chips

They’re lower in fat and still supply the salty crunch factor.  Plus, lots of places have both, so they’re an easy alternative.  Taste buds absolutely demanding chips? Check out Special K’s Cracker Chips—27 chips per serving, plus they’re baked.
Sweet

Try this: Fro-yo

NOT Ice cream

With the temps warming up, you’re gonna be craving something cold during those hot summer nights.  Fro-yo it is!  Only have Ben & Jerry’s in the freezer?  Stick your fave flavor yogurt in the freezer ahead of time.  A couple hours later, voila!  You’ll have a perfectly-portioned serving of low fat fro-yo.  Enjoy it with your fave summer fruit.
Cheesy

Try this: DIY pizza bagels

NOT Frozen pizza bagel bites

Bagel Bites are always a crowd pleaser.  Sadly, they’re also packed with tons of sodium.  Grab a whole wheat bagel or English muffin instead and top it off with your fave sauce, cheese and toppings.  Pop it in the oven and munch on your pizza guilt-free.  Quick and delish!
Peanut Buttery

Try this: Fruits and veggies or wheat crackers with natural peanut butter

NOT a package of PB crackers

We have good news and bad news.  The bad news: peanut butter is pretty high in fat.  The good news: it is a great source of protein in moderation.  PB crackers sure are tasty, but they also tend to be loaded with additives and preservatives.  Diglycerides and tocopherols, what?  Choose an all-natural PB with your fruits and veggies instead.  You’ll be able to recognize all the ingredients on the label!
Fried

Try this: Baked zucchini fries

NOT French fries

Even if you’re not a big veggie fan, these super simple and so yummy zucchini fries are definitely worth a try.  Check out the recipe!  Come on, what do you have to lose?  Um, calories.
