No matter what lotion I try, my skin is always dry!
One of our least favorite things about winter is dry skin. Everything from icy blasts of wind to dry heat inside perpetuates it, and as you’ve noticed, once your skin goes dry, it’s tough to recover.
The answer for you, hunnie, might be in ditching lotion in favor of oil. I know, it seems counterintuitive—oil makes you break out, right? Well, that’s true to a certain extent. After all, you don’t want to be rubbing your face in pizza box grease. But there are some all-natural oils that can do wonders for your skin.
As a matter of fact, your skin produces oils naturally, just like your hair does. It’s when you get an imbalance of oils mixed with dirt and yucky bacteria that you start to break out. Keeping your skin clean and well moisturized should help you stay balanced.
The fatty acids in oils work to instantly hydrate your skin, zapping that scaly look you’ve probably cringed at in the mirror instantly. They also help rebuild and maintain your skin’s natural exterior lipid layer, which protects you from all the nasty things winter brings with it, like wind burn and overly dry conditions. Oils also tend to be less irritating than moisturizers, lotions and creams, often because there are fewer ingredients involved.
Start experimenting by using it on your body—hands and legs—right after a shower. A light rub on your face after a quick rinse should be all you need there, too. When shopping, look for seed oils. Visiting a specialty skin and body store might help you find exactly what ya need thanks to sales associates in the know.
