How to transform your dresser from drab to adorable

You’ve had the same dresser since your dress size was 4 to 6 months. While you can kind of appreciate the history there, one fact is staring you and your furniture in the face: it’s time for a fresh look. And guess what? There is a totally cinchy way to achieve it. Painted furniture, whether you go for one simple shade, a tonal or ombre effect or a pattern, is easy to master and looks fantastic.

What you need:

A drop cloth

Painter’s tape

Sandpaper in three different grades: coarse, medium and fine

Primer

Paint

Varnish or a protective finish

A paint tray

Brushes and foam rollers

Ready to go?

Split your time between these two excellent how-tos: Apartment Therapy’s tutorial and this thrift store dresser makeover at Make It Love It. And for even more fun, all the pattern inspo you could want, right here at Scraphacker.
