Clever ways to change up your room for less than $20
If we could redo our rooms on a whim, we totally would every other month. The limiting factor? The budget! Lucky for us, there are 7 super-cinchy ways to make little switches that make a big difference. And you can do it all for under $20. Phew!
Change the knobs on your dresser
Head to a thrift store or a homegoods store and look for unique knobs and drawer pulls. All you’ll need to make the swap is a screw driver.
Make your best jewelry a center piece
A simple wood or gilt frame and a piece of wire mesh gives you a great place for glittery earrings.
Paint your nightstand
Have a simple wood nightstand by your bed? Pick up a can of spray paint (we’re loving metallics this winter), take it outside and give it a good coat or two, then dry.
Wrap a lamp
Snag some of Mom’s holiday paper and a container of Scotch tape. Cut the paper down so it will neatly fit inside the lampshade, use the tape to hold it in place and voila! Insta-color and pattern. Just make sure the bulb does not touch paper!
Braid a rug
Buy some fat quarters from a fabric store in complimentary shades and patterns. Cut them into long strips a few inches wide, then start braiding the strips together, adding in a new one when you get to the end, until they are all braided. Then, coil the braid around itself, forming a circular rug. Use a needle and thread to stitch the coils together.
Tie-dye your bedding
Hunt around for inexpensive pillow shams and a duvet cover, then grab a tie-dye kit and go to town.
Be scent-sational
Head to the room scent section of your local grocery store and pick one that catches your eye. It could be a plug-in or an oil diffuser. Whichever you pick, know it’s an easy way to change the mood.
