GRILL ON GIRLS: A Perfect Present For Mother's Day

Don't know what to get mom for Mother's Day? We've got the perfect present in mind. Cook up some love and some yummy treats in the kitchen. Quality time spent with mom is the best gift you could give her. After all, what's better than whipping up a feast and some fun with the person who cares about you most? Need a helping hand? We've got some simple recipies that Your favorite Disney stars cooked up with thier moms. Bon Appetite!

Dish up a baked ziti classic with "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus and her mom Tish. Not your style? How about a grilled chicken masterpiece from Kyle Massey of the breakout hit "Cory in the House," and his mom Angel. Still not hitting the spot? The third time is a charm with a tropical spinach salad from Sabrina Bryan, one-third of the group The Cheetah Girls, and her mom Kathy. Check out their amazingly tasty recipies, hit up the grocery store and get cookin! Don't forget to include fellow siblings in the feast! There will be plenty of goodness to go around!

Miley and Tish's Baked Ziti

mileymothers.jpg1 jar of your favorite marinara sauce
1 box penne pasta
1lb. lean ground beef or ground turkey
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 tsp. garlic salt

Preheat oven to 350. Prepare penne as directed on the box. Brown mean in saute pan and drain.

In a seperate bowl, combine 1/2 jar of marinara sauce, ricotta cheese and garlic salt. Then, add pasta and mix together.

Coat bottom of baking dish with marinara sauce and add pasta/cheese mix. Add the remaining sauce and cover top with shredded mozzarella.

Bake uncovered until the top is browned, approximately 35-45 minutes.

 

Kyle and Angel's Grilled Chicken

masseymothers.jpg4 chicken breasts, skin and fat removed
3 cups low-fat Italian salad dressing
3 cloves of garlic, chopped
1/2 tsp Accent seasoning
1/2 tsp seasoned salt

Combine dressing, garlic, Accent and seasoned salt. Place chicken breasts in an oven bag, plastic or glass dish. Make sure the chicken is completely covered with marinade, cover the dish and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Preheat the grill. Place chicken on grill and cook roughly 5 minutes, or until brown. Turn chicken and cook roughly 5 minutes, or until brown. Continue until chicken is cooked through, roughly 15 minutes. Place chicken on a clean serving dish and serve warm.

Serves 4.

 

Sabrina and Kathy's Tropical Spinach Salad & Dressing

sabrinamothers.jpg1lb. fresh spinach, washed, trimmed and torn into bite sized pieces
10-12 fresh mushrooms, sliced
2- 11oz. cans mandarin oranges
1 pint strawberries, sliced
1 jicama, julienned
1 cup dressing
Optional: Sliced bananas, apples & avocados

Combine spinach, mushrooms, mandarin oranges, strawberries, and jicama.
Add dressing to taste and toss lightly.

Serves 10-12

Dressing:
1 1/2 cups sugar
2/3 cups vinegar
2 tsp. dry mustard
2 tsp. salt
3 tablespoons onion juice
2 cups vegetable oil
3 tablespoons poppy seeds

In a blender, combine sugar, mustard, salt, and vinegar. Add onion juice and blend until smooth. Slowly add oil, blending until thick. Stir in poppy seeds. Store in the refrigerator.
